Repair

When repairing tape echo’s I first do an analysis and then proceed to repair after consultation with the client. The analysis has costs attached (see page 'costs')

When repairing also includes replacing the rubber pinch roller and plastic guide rollers if necessary. These are separate costs. I am the only one in the Netherlands that does this (only for Dynacord)

The running mechanism is checked and adjusted. The heads are checked. These are almost never defective, they can be a bit worn but this is not immediately at the expense of the high tones in contrast to what many people think. The heads are cleaned with isopropanol alcohol and demagnetized.

The electronics are checked and where necessary parts are replaced. The potentiometers are checked and rinsed clean. NOT treated with contact spray.

The worst dirt is sucked out of the motor.

After all this to have done you have a good working tape echo again.

INCLUDING a new tape loop!

Service

You can also choose for a service. The tape echo will be cleaned from the inside. The motor is cleaned. The heads are cleaned (not clean polished) and demagnetized. The drive is adjusted and the pinchrollers are cleaned. Should the potentiometers crack then they get a rinse. So you have a clean and properly functioning echo again.

INCLUDING a new tape loop!

If I find a defect I will of course report it !

Smooth polishing heads

After 40 years of use most heads are a bit worn. In itself this is not so bad but the tape loop does not fit well anymore on the

over the head. This means that you do not have the optimal tape - head contact and that is at the expense of the signal. The sound becomes thinner.

The heads are polished smooth again so that the tape loop sits completely over the head for optimal contact. This goes beyond polishing the heads clean with Brasso.

This is an intensive and precise job. If a head is worn too deeply it comes at the expense of the high, this I have not yet encountered with the exception of the Watkins copicat. These are small fragile cassette heads and they will have to be replaced. These are fortunately available from Ampfix in England.

A head can also be defective and then polishing is of course useless.

Roland space echo's, Evans space echo's and Korg stage echo's have strong large heads and are actually never (far) worn so that it will give problems.

so that it will give a problem but there will be exceptions.
